The difference between 'menambah' and 'menambahkan'
The verb 'menambah' means to increase while 'menambahkan' means to add.
Here are the correct usage for both verbs.
1 Dia banyak membaca buku untuk menambah ilmu pengetahuannya.
[He reads a lot of books to increase his knowledge.]
2 Lina bercadang untuk menambah pelaburannya dalam saham baru itu.
[Lina plans to increase her investment in the new share.]
3 Kakak menambahkan gula ke dalam air di dalam gelas itu supaya manis rasanya.
[My sister added sugar to the water in the glass so that it tastes sweet.]
4 Ibuku menambahkan garam ke dalam kuah yang dimasaknya.
[My mother added salt to the gravy she cooked.]

is the distinction really necessary?
i mean in the illustration given, both variations are valid.
menambah = increase
menambahkan = added
are u trying to say that the suffix *kan* implies a past tense?
if such is true then all the below are wrong, albeit being used extensively in our society.
1. dia ingin menyatakan ideanya
2. abu bercadang meluaskan perniagaannya.
3. lina berniat untuk meluahkan perasaannya pada ...
the thing about connecting a particular morphological form to a semantic context is that the manifestation has to be consistent.
how do u explain what we've been using all this while? are they wrong as well?
I am glad to have you comment on my blog. My writing is based on my experience as a teacher and staunch supporter of standard Malay. I really hope one day our national language can be like English where there is no ambuguity as to its usage.
Kamus Dewan is my reference as we need to have a frame of reference in case of a refute. In this case, if you read Kamus Dewan carefully, there is really a difference between 'menambah' and 'menambahkan'. The usage is as what I have written in this blog.
As for the sentences you wrote, this is my comment.
1 The 'menyatakan' comes from 'nyata' which is an adjective. Hence, the 'kan' is mandatory. The derivative verb menyatakan cannot be correct without 'kan'.
2 Similarly, luas is an adjective, and 'meluaskan' (another derivative verb) formed from luas can exist together with another intransitive verb 'meluas' which means 'menjadi luas'.
3 As for 'meluahkan', another word 'meluah' which means 'berase ingin muntah' can exist too.
I hope all national language lovers will fight to have our language achieving standardisation instead of diversification and allowing wrong usage to take control.

in *meluaskan* and *meluas*, the same principle enforced in *menambah* and *menambahkan* is not applied?
