Some users of the Malay language are influenced by spoken Malay and use 'sebab' as if it is the same as 'kerana' but there is really a difference.
In terms of 'Golongan kata' or Parts of Speech, 'sebab' is a noun which means 'reason'. As for 'kerana' it is a conjunction which means 'because'. Perhaps the following two sentences will make this point clear.
1 Terdapat beberapa sebab berlakunya melepak dalam kalangan pelajar.
[There are some reasons why loafing among students occur.]
2 Adik tidak pergi ke sekolah kerana dia sakit.
[My brother did not go to school because he was sick.]

i've been doin some research on sebab vs. kerana. seems that sebab has a few synsets including a conjunction.
as such.. the following is considered valid.
dia poyo *sebab* ajar bm dalam bi.
dia poyo *kerana* ajar bm dalam bi.
There is nothing wrong in introducing our national language to the world at large. By the way, this blog is meant for local and international readers. That explains why I make it a point to translate all sentences into English to the best of my ability.
In spoken Malay, 'sebab' is used more often than 'kerana'. As I said in my comment elsewhere in this blog, we should use formal language in written work. The word 'sebab' is used as a noun in the grammar book. As such, let us don't add more confusion to our students.

i've surfed a couple of sites on language that treat *sebab* as a conjuction as well.
how can there not be confusions when one grammar book classifies *sebab* as noun/conjunction, when another, such as yours, look at it as a noun exclusively.
